Blueberries and leafy greens are staples in a Blue Zone longevity diet, which emphasizes whole, plant-based foods for a long and healthy life. Blueberries, with their high levels of antioxidants, can fight inflammation and protect against chronic diseases. Their natural sweetness makes them a delicious treat, too. Leafy greens are packed with vitamins, minerals, and fiber, supporting everything from bone and heart health to digestion. Together, these nutrient-dense foods provide essential nutrients that help keep your body strong, energized, and ready for a long, vibrant life!

Why are Blueberries So Good for You?
Blueberries are a true superfood! They’re loaded with antioxidants, especially vitamin C and anthocyanins (which is most abundant in their blue skins), which help protect your body from oxidative stress and inflammation.
Anthocyanins are powerful antioxidants found in colorful fruits and vegetables, especially in berries like blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries. These natural compounds give plants their vibrant red, purple, and blue hues. Beyond their beautiful colors, anthocyanins help protect your body from oxidative stress and inflammation, which are linked to many chronic diseases like heart disease and cancer. They also support brain health and may even improve memory. Including anthocyanin-rich foods, like blueberries, into your diet is an easy way to boost your overall health!

How Leafy Greens Promote Longevity
Leafy greens are a powerhouse when it comes to promoting longevity! Packed with vitamins A, C, and K, they help keep your immune system strong, support bone health, heart health and even protect your vision. Their high fiber content aids digestion and helps maintain a healthy weight, both of which are key to living longer. Plus, leafy greens are rich in antioxidants that fight inflammation and reduce the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease and cancer. Adding more greens to your diet is a simple way to boost your health and longevity!

Ingredients in Blueberry and Greens Blue Zone Longevity Smoothie
Fresh or Frozen Blueberries: These are the antioxidant stars of this smoothie and can be fresh or frozen. If using frozen the texture will be thicker and more like a shake. I like to buy fresh blueberries when they’re on sale and freeze them to use in things like this smoothie.
Fresh or Frozen Spinach and Kale: Yes, you can freeze greens to use in smoothies. I keep a box of organic greens in the freezer at all times. It’s so convenient and I don’t have to worry about them going bad.
Fresh or Frozen Banana: Adding a banana will sweeten this smoothie naturally although if you like it even sweeter then a few dates can be added.
Tofu: Adding a chunk of tofu makes this smoothie even creamier and adds a bit of protein.
Oats: Adding oats to this smoothie boosts its fiber content, helping you feel full longer. They also add a creamy texture and a subtle nutty flavor, making this even more satisfying and nutritious.

How to Make This Smoothie
The best part about this smoothie is it can be made in just a few minutes. Toss all the ingredients into a blender and puree until very smooth. I prefer a VitaMix because it gets everything super smooth but any blender will do.
