Ingredients

  1. Add all ingredients to a crockpot, Instant Pot, or large soup pot.

Crockpot

  1. If using a crockpot, use a large one. Add all ingredients to the crockpot and adjust the water to cover. Cook on high for about 4 hours or on low for 8 hours or overnight.

Instant Pot

  1. If using an Instant Pot, place all ingredients in the Instant Pot with enough water to cover. Pressure cook for 15 minutes for firmer peas and 20 minutes for softer peas and then let the pressure release naturally for at least 15 minutes.

Stove Top

  1. If cooking on the stove, use a large, heavy-bottomed soup pot. Add all ingredients and bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat to medium and let simmer for about an hour, stirring occasionally. Add more water if needed.

Recipe Notes

It's NOT necessary to soak black-eyed peas. They do just fine cooking them straight from dried.
