Pasta Marinara with Garbanzo Burgers is a great plant-based dinner. It’s easy, hearty, super healthy, and vegan.

I made the marinara sauce cheesy and a little sweet … kind of like Spaghetti-Os. 

We didn’t have much “junk” food when I was a kid so when I moved out on my own I ate nothing but Spaghetti-Os for about three weeks … until I was, quite literally, sick of them. I still like them, though, and the flavor is easily replicated in dishes like this vegan marinara. 

I’ve got a head-sized sweet tooth, so I like sweetish sauces. But if you don’t (and a lot of folks don’t) just omit any sweetener.

Nutritional yeast adds a ton of B vitamins and a cheesy flavor. I use a little stevia for sweetness, but some people aren’t fans of it. Any sweetener can be used to taste. 

I like Bob’s Red Mill brand of nutritional yeast because it’s easy to find in my area at most local groceries and it’s not terribly expensive. You can also find it online

I noticed this heart-shaped tangle of noodles after I’d taken the photos.

The garbanzo bean burgers can be easily made from Planted365’s Banzo Burger recipe. A full batch using one can of chickpeas will make 4 burgers.

  1. Prepare the garbanzo bean burgers according to the recipe at and set them aside.

  2. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, simmer the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, onions, garlic, nutritional yeast, basil, oregano, salt, pepper, and any sweetener if you choose to add any, for about 40 minutes. 

  3. Cook the noodles according to the package directions and drain well. 

  4. Serve the marinara sauce over the spaghetti noodles and add two halves of a garbanzo burger on the side.
