Mmm. Dark Chocolate Hummus.
What?
Let me explain. I can basically eat my weigh in regular hummus daily. If you get between me and the tub, you might lose a finger. So, I finally had to try making a batch of “dessert hummus” and decided on chocolate. I love chocolate. I love hummus. Win-win. Kind of.
The few recipes I found online didn’t seem chocolaty or creamy enough, so I tweaked it a bit. It turned out to be pretty delicious, but also one of those party trick kind of foods. You know, “I bet you’ll never guess what this is made from!”
It was best served chilled and with fruit on gluten free pita, but would be good with vegan chocolate chips mixed in … kind of like cookie dough.
If you love this, feel good about indulging. Dark chocolate contains loads of nutrients, including protein and magnesium. When someone asks, “Where do you get your protein?” sometimes I just answer, “chocolate.” A lot of days, that’s pretty much true. Garbanzo beans, aka chickpeas, are also chock-full of protein.

Hello! I’m Lisa, a vegan artist, photographer, author, Vegan Life Coach Educator, and RYT 200 yoga teacher. I love showing others how simple and delicious a plant-based diet can be. I draw and paint, cook, write, take lots of pics, eat lots of chocolate, and practice gratitude daily.
I would love to make an oil-free version of this; any suggestions?
Hi Donna, Sure! I would think simply omitting the olive oil (and possibly the tahini) would work. If you’re used to oil free hummus, then the chocolate hummus should work well for you as well.
