This gravy tastes a lot like “chicken” gravy and gets a lot of its flavor from nutritional yeast. Celery seed and other spices fill out the flavor.

Cook Time 7 minutes
Total Time 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 tablespoon tapioca flour
  • 1 tablespoon white rice flour (or all purpose gluten-free flour)
  • 1 tablespoon finely grated carrot
  • 1 tablespoon celery seed
  • 2 tablespoons onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 3 tablespoons nutritional yeast¬†
  • 2 teaspoons parskey flakes
  • 1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper (or to taste)
  • 2 cups water or vegetable broth

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil in a large, heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add in the finely grated carrot and saute for a minute or so.
  3. Add in the spices and heat for another minute.
  4. Add the flours and stir until it makes a thick paste.
  5. Add the water or broth and bring to a simmer while whisking. Let simmer for a few minutes util thickened.
  6. Adjust for salt and pepper.
