Vegan Chocolate Ice Cream is Easy to Make!

This couldn’t be much easier to make. Once the sweet secret ingredient is prepared and frozen, it takes just a few minutes to blend it all up into tasty, delicious ice cream. I use my seven-year-old VitaMix, which I use every day at least once.

Secret Ingredient Makes it Sweet and Creamy

What is the secret ingredient, you ask? It’s the simple, nutritious, inexpensive, tasty, sweeeeeeet, easily found sweet potato!

Sweet potato makes a sweetly delicious substitute for sugar or even frozen bananas. I found the sweet potatoes to be even sweeter and creamier than bananas.

Just rinse the sweet potatoes and then bake on a foil-lined tray for an hour at 450 degrees F. No need to poke holes in them or wrap them in foil.

Just bake the crap out of their orange selves because then they turn out all sweet and squishy and caramelized. Perfect for ice cream.

Once the potatoes are cooled, peel and cut into pieces and place in the freezer until frozen solid, usually overnight.

Turn Sweet Potatoes into Vegan Chocolate Ice Cream

Once the sweet potatoes are cooked, cooled, and then frozen, they can be utilized at a moment’s notice to make the most delicious, creamy ice cream. The flavor possibilities are nearly endless, but I went for a fairly plain chocolate version today … which takes an amazingly few three ingredients!

Can Be Made With as Little as THREE Ingredients!

That’s right. Three ingredient vegan chocolate ice cream. Did I mention it takes just a few minutes once the sweet potatoes are frozen? Additions can be easily made at the blending stage, like a pinch of salt, a bit of vanilla, or even additional sweetener.

Dress it Up!

I added a drizzle of melted chocolate chips and a bit of tahini, chopped nuts, and dried cranberries. It was heavenly.

Vegan Chocolate Ice Cream made with Sweet Potato

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked, cooled, frozen sliced sweet potato make sure sweet potatoes are thoroughly frozen
  • 1 cup plant-based milk hemp milk, almond milk, coconut milk, etc
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a high-speed blender and process until smooth, creamy, and like firm-ish soft-serve ice cream.

  2. If you'd like even firmer ice cream, simply place the finished soft-serve ice cream into a container and pop in the freezer and stir every 15 minutes for an hour,

Add as many toppings as you like! Chocolate syrup, chips, hard shell, nuts, dried fruit, etc., are all delicious toppings!

I made the ice cream but ate it at room temperature as a pudding. Tasty! Decorated it with red raspberries and served. A hit dessert!!
