The Bernie Burger: Sweet and Spicy Vegan Burger
The Bernie Burger
The Bernie Burger is a vegan and plant-based sweet potato quinoa veggie burger that’s delicious, nutritious and so simple to make! Like Sen. Bernie Sanders, this burger is sweet, just a bit spicy, and so good for you! It’s good, honest, simple food that will sustain you and is also good for others!
Sweet and Spicy Vegan Burger!
I started with some sweet and delicious sweet potatoes. Simply bake them at 425 degrees F for about an hour. I like to keep several cooked sweet potatoes on hand through the week because they’re so yummy and versatile.
Quinoa Adds Crunch!
Quinoa is a super healthy grain that helps this stick together and adds just a little crunch.
For the cooked quinoa, I use Bob’s Red Mill Quinoa because that’s what my local grocery carries. Yours probably does, too, but if not you can get some at that link.
Great Northern Beans Add Texture and Protein!
I’ve added a can of mashed, well-drained Great Northern Beans. They’re super delicious and full of fiber and protein.
Mash the beans until smoother but with a bit of texture still remaining.
The Bernie Burger Uses Vermont Maple Syrup, Of Course!
To make this even a bit sweeter, I added a little bit of maple syrup. Vermont maple syrup, of course! Add the maple syrup, sweet potato, and the rest of the ingredients until well incorporated.
Then form into 4-6 patties and fry with or without oil.
Then add your favorite toppings and voila!
No matter who is YOUR favorite, don’t forget to vote!
XO Lisa
